Madrid Viaduct

It is one of the two great iron bridges that span the centre of Redondela, the town of the viaducts. It opened on 30 June 1876 for the Vigo–Ourense railway line and stayed in service for more than a century.

On the Camino

Redondela is the end of the stage from O Porriño (15.8 km, or 9.8 miles) and the point where the Central Route and the Coastal Route meet. Albergue Casa da Torre is about 200 m as the crow flies.

Good to know

The work was directed by the architect Augusto Cazaux, and the equipment was supplied by the French company Fives-Lille. The viaduct went out of use in the 1970s and in 2012 work began to restore the structure. Since 1978 a file has been open to declare it a Bien de Interés Cultural (Asset of Cultural Interest).
