History of Valada
One of the oldest parishes in Cartaxo; the Romans were already farming its fertile plain, and there are documents from the Arab period about its lands. The parish includes Porto de Muge, Reguengo and Palhota. Farming (tomato, sunflower, maize, wheat, melon, vines) is its main source of wealth; shad fishing was important until recently. In Palhota, a fishing village with wooden houses on stilts, the writer Alves Redol lived.
