Church of Santa María Salomé

It is considered the only parish church dedicated to Salome, the mother of the apostle James. It is also one of the few in the city to keep its 12th-century Romanesque doorway, built in the time of Bishop Diego Gelmírez.

How to get there from the Portuguese Camino

It is at Rúa Nova 31, the street parallel to the Rúa do Franco along which the Portuguese Camino enters. After the Porta Faxeira, just keep along the Rúa Nova instead of the Rúa do Franco: the church is about 250 m in a straight line from the Praza do Obradoiro.

What to look for

The entrance porch dates from the early 16th century. On the doorway there is a pregnant Virgin, one of the three preserved in Compostela. Beside the nave there are two Gothic chapels, and the Baroque tower was finished in the 18th century.
